Are You a Type A or Type B Gardener?

Are You a Type A or Type B Gardener?

After working with dozens of Potomac homeowners, I've noticed something: there are two types of gardeners. And only one of them is getting the help they actually need.

Type A: "Make It Beautiful, I Trust You Completely"

You want:

  • A gorgeous garden without thinking about it
  • Someone to handle everything — design, installation, maintenance
  • Monthly service so you never have to worry
  • Results you can see, without learning the process

You might say:

  • "I want it done right, and I don't have time to learn"
  • "Just tell me what it costs and make it happen"
  • "I don't need to understand it, I need to enjoy it"

The challenge: Most landscaping companies serve Type A — but they often use chemicals, ignore soil health, and treat your yard like a one-time project rather than a living system.

If you're Type A: My Rooted Lifestyle package is built for you. Full design, installation, and weekly maintenance. Beauty without the work — but done ecologically, with soil health and legacy in mind.

Type B: "I Care Deeply, But I'm Overwhelmed"

You want:

  • To understand your garden, not just look at it
  • To do right by the environment (no chemicals, natives, pollinators)
  • Guidance through the learning curve
  • To become self-sufficient eventually, but you need help getting there

You might say:

  • "I know I should do better, but I don't know where to start"
  • "I tried gardening before and everything died — I feel like a failure"
  • "I want to learn, but I need someone to teach me in my actual yard"
  • "I feel guilty about my lawn/chemicals/dead plants"

The challenge: Almost nobody serves Type B. Landscaping companies want to "mow and blow." Garden centers sell you plants without teaching you what to do with them. YouTube videos show perfect gardens in perfect climates that don't match Potomac's reality.

You're left feeling: Overwhelmed. Guilty. Like you should know more than you do. Like everyone else has this figured out except you.

If you're Type B: You're exactly who I built Rooted in Potomac for. My Seasonal Partner coaching package was designed for you — bi-weekly sessions where we work together in your garden, I teach you what I'm doing and why, and by the end of the season, you understand your yard better than most Master Gardeners.

The Quiz

Not sure which you are? Ask yourself:

1. When you look at your yard, you feel:
A) Apathy — I just want it handled

2. Your ideal garden relationship is:
A) You do it, I enjoy it
B) Teach me so I can do it myself

3. Your biggest frustration is:
A) It doesn't look good and I don't have time to fix it
B) I want to do it right but I don't know how

4. You'd rather spend money on:
A) Having it done professionally

Why This Matters

Most garden businesses only serve Type A. They want quick projects, big invoices, and clients who don't ask questions.

I built Rooted in Potomac because Type B gardeners deserve help too. The ones who care deeply but feel overwhelmed. The ones who want to do right by the planet but don't know where to start. The ones who feel guilty about their "failures" but are actually just beginners who need a guide.

That's who I am. That's who I work with. That's who you are.

Let's grow something together.
